I studied Creative Writing in the Mississippi Delta, but I have always been rooted in authentic sound and music from a deep familial, musical root while growing up in one of the birthplaces of American music and soul, Memphis, Tennessee.
I came to connect that sound is poetry.
Sound is our stories. Sound is nostalgia.
Sound is the heart of culture.
My interest in sound is part of my DNA, and translated my name means “a poet who travels accompanied with music.” As a youngin’ all my time was spent absorbing the performances of my Gibson guitar playing daddy and many others at our culturally rich, live music driven, fish fries and get togethers around Memphis and The South. Instilled within me was a hunger-like curiosity for the historic origins and connective links of sounds and music.
As a late teen, I was a sound engineering intern at legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis. For many years I worked in collaboration with the esteemed Mississippi Records label in Portland, Or. I went onto produce electronic music and after successful international Dj, music, and radio careers, I moved to Los Angeles shifting my focus by applying my skill-set to narrative films, commercials, and documentaries.
I have always been driven by a need to connect sonically, to help others connect with one another, and to help change the world for better. My move to LA was another chapter in applying my soul’s purpose to practice. From composing and post sound editing, I discovered another outlet for my calling as a Production Sound Mixer.
Being on set I carry the feeling of being of service to others, which is what makes my soul sing! I am fulfilled by helping physically and energetically. Even when quiet, even when tired, I move quickly and enjoy the swift pace. I bring not just the audio engineering expertise, but also enthusiasm, good energy, compassionate listening, an anticipation of needs, a keen ability to problem solve, and patience.
With sound playing the most pivotal role of my life, there is no place I would rather be than doing this work. I find happiness and purpose in being part of a crew that is supporting the performances, voices, talents, work, and creative visions of others.
